So with the majority of the world’s population in lockdown a lot of people will be looking for something to do during the lockdown.  As such I thought this would be a really good time to list 24 young adult series or trilogies that you may want to read during the lockdown.

Most of these books are on my to be read list which is a little out of hand and at some point I might manage to have reviews of all of these on Indulgent readers.

  1. Lunar Chronicles

If you are anxious this is probably not the time to be reading this series as part of the main storyline is a pandemic which doesn’t have a cure. If this doesn’t concern you and you like fairytale retellings then you will probably enjoy this series.

If you still aren’t sure I have shared a review of Cinder which is book one of the Lunar Chronicles.

  1. Harry Potter

I know most people will have read this series but why not pick up an old favourite series? Especially one that takes you into a world that everyone wanted to be included in.

  1. Skulduggery Pleasant

This series is well worth a read if you like magic that is centred in real world places. The story is centred on a long dead mage and his young female sidekick. The books much like Harry Potter get gradually darker though they keep the same occasional lightheartedness as the earlier books.

  1. Percy Jackson

This is also not an unknown series if you enjoy a little about Greek mythology and enjoy a light read this is something that you should enjoy.

  1. The Heroes of Olympus

This is the second series of books within the Percy Jackson world.  While you don’t need to read the Percy Jackson series to read these, there are a few references to the previous series but it makes complete sense without reading the first one.

  1. Throne of Glass

This is a young adult series that I am most of the way through I have the final 2 books left and the prequel to finish.  This series of books is high fantasy following a female assassin dealing with tyrannical rulers and a corrupt kingdom.

  1. Hunger Games

This trilogy is on my reread list as I read it so quickly I didn’t really get to enjoy it as much as I would have had I taken a little more time. A story of survival against all odds could be comforting at this difficult time.

  1. Inheritance Cycle

This is another high fantasy series involving overthrowing a corrupted king. This series is on my to be read list for this year and I am certainly hoping to get to it sooner rather than later.

  1. Divergent

Yet another series which is on my bookcase waiting for me to get to it.  This is a series set in a post-apocalyptic world. This series follows a female who is divergent from the expected.

  1. Mortal Instruments

I am most of the way through this series, yet another one that I need to get around to finishing.  While I have 2 books of the series left, the concept of angel descendants running around New York along with all the other supernatural creatures that are included allows the reader to sink into a world where the lines between reality and fantasy are blurred.

  1. Infernal Devices

This trilogy is the prequel to the above series.  They discuss the ancestors of the characters involved in the Mortal Instruments.  You do not need to have read the Mortal instruments series to understand this series.

  1. A Court of Thorns and Roses

This Trilogy is one that I have read the first half but need to settle down and finish.  The books are high fantasy with waring fae and differing tribes.

  1. The Raven Cycle

I have read book one of this series and I did enjoy this book. I haven’t had the chance to get into the rest of the series but it is certainly on my list to get to.

  1. Red Queen Series

This is yet another series that has been on my to be read list for a long time.   Blood is important, in the real world we joke that the royals have blue blood, and in this series there are those with red blood and those with Silver and this is what the whole society is based on.

  1. The Selection

This series like the one above is based on society being broken up on specific preconceptions.  This world is divided into various different castes based on specific traits. This series follows a character as she over breaks various traditions.

  1. Matched

This trilogy is a dystopian series about a tightly controlled society which picks out your life partners at a young age.  This leads to the main character having a challenge and start to question their society.

  1. MIss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

I haven’t yet started this series, we spotted the film on google play sometime last year and the film was so good I instantly wanted to read the books.  This is a contemporary fantasy novel series, as the title suggests Miss Peregrine looks after a number of children with peculiar talents and the story unfolds from there.

  1. Folk of the Air

The first book in the Folk of the Air Trilogy is the reason for my rule about not starting a series which isn’t completed. I read the first one in three days, and desperately wanted to read the rest, which were not out for over a year. From what I have read I think that this would be enjoyed by people who love complex society and magic.

This list includes 83  young adult books so hopefully it has given you a few new potential reads and managed to give you something to read during this time.

I am taking advantage of the long weekend to get ahead on my reading,  as you can see from the list above, there is a lot on the to be read list.
