The Ultimate Harry Potter Book Tag
I would like to apologise for the lack of post mid-week. I am under the weather right now and I am concentrating on getting better. But I couldn’t go over a week without a post!
Harry Potter, a book that I grew up with and have fond memories of. I am hoping to finish re-reading the series this year, it has been so long since I last read it that I have forgotten half of what happens! However I saw the book tag here and thought that I should complete it.
ROUND ONE: OPINONS
Prisoner of Askaban, it is nice and short but still has a strong plot line and enough character development to keep the reader engaged.
Least Faourite Book
the Goblet of Fire – mostly due ot the fact that the first chapter feels very slow in comparison to the ususal flow of the books. The first time you read it as well if doens’t seem to be related to the story for a long period of time.
Goblet of Fire – the film sticks fairly closely to the book, has a number of humorous moments. The later films started leaving more out which in some cases was really frustrating.
Least fabourite film
Order of the Pheonix, there was a lot that was cut, and while I understand that the book is fairly hefty and not everything could be included, but there are some parts that I really wish had stayed in such as the battle at the end, seeing more of how Fleur integrated into her new family.
“Bloody Hell” – Ron Weasley
One of the things that pulls all the films together, something that for me is iconic. It always makes me smile.
Charlie. I know he isn’t in the films, but I like that he loves his job, and is the cool older brother who works with Dragons for a living. DRAGONS!!
Favourite Female Character
Luna Lovegood. I love the character she has a really refreshing outlook on life, and brings some good breaks in the tension that the books are bringing.
Draco Malfoy. He is a character that while unpleasant once you meet his parents you can understand why he has certain opinions. He also redeems himself by the end of the series.
Favourite Male Character
Sirius Black. We don’t spend much time with him but it is clear that he cares deeply about Harry, and provides him with a role model. I also like the ways that he rebelled from his parents when he was youngre including a permanent sticking charm on muggle posters.
Professor McGonagall. She always does what she believes is best for her house and despite her stern demeanour she clearly cares about them all.
ROUND TWO: WOULD YOU RATHER?
Wash Snape’s hair or spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself?
Snape… I think. While it may be a little uncomfortable Snape could actually teach you something.
Duel and elated Bellatrix or an angry Molly?
Bellatrix, while she is insane that is also a weakness, you know what to expect going into the fight.
Travel to Hogwarts via the Hogwarts Express or Flying car?
While the car would certainly be an interesting experience I would rather the train, it is much more comfortable, you can take a loo break, and there is food available.
Kiss Voldermort or give Umbridge a Bath?
There is one potential advantage of kissing Voldermort over giving Umbridge a bath, you won’t survive long afterwards meaning you won’t have the memory burnt into your brain for very long.
Ride a hippogriff or ride a Firebolt?
I would prefer to ride the firebolt, knowing that if something goes wrong it is my fault not anyone else’s.
ROUND THREE: BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATIONS
Is there a character you felt differently about in the movie vs books?
Remus Lupin. He wasn’t given enough screen time in the third film given his importance within the final books, it was also odd how he and Harry stayed in touch given that Harry didn’t spend any more time with Lupin than the vast majoirty of students.
Is there a movie you preferred to the book?
Goblet of Fire, the film has a few more comedic moments which is useful as the storyline isn’t as dark as the later books, and that does not come across in the book.
Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?
I loved Richard Harris’ performance, he reminded me much more of what I think Dumbledore should be vs Michael Gambon’s version.
Your top thing (person or event) which wasn’t included in the movie that annoyed you most.
Charlie wasn’t included – despite his importance in the first and fourth book!
If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be?
Order of the Pheonix. There is so much that was left out of the film.
ROUND 4: HOGWARTS
Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?
Slytherin. I always knew I belonged in Silver and green! I do have a post for all the other Slytherins who need a reason to be proud of their house!
Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore (or another online sorting quiz?)
I was a Ravenclaw on pottermore, but the buzzfeed quiz which gives you percentages of each house, I am a slytherin and Ravenclaw is second.
Which class would be your favourite?
History of Magic (if well taught). I love history and knowing that there is history to learn that I have never even heard of would be great.
Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?
“Portus” there are so many advantages to being able to create portkeys. You could travel anywhere in the world without the carbon footprint. If you really wanted to you could pop somewhere to top up your tan for the day, or if you really wanted to eat Italian you could visit for a meal.
Which character do you think at Hogwarts you’d instantly become best friends with?
I would probably be very good friends with Luna.
ROUND 5: Miscellaneous
If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?
The invisibility Cloak.
Is there any aspcet of the books you’d want to change? This can be character event etc.
Sirius’ death. I feel Harry has been through so much he deserved to have some happiness.
Remus Lupin. I like that he was the voice of reason in the group. But he wasn’t opposed to having a bit of fun
If you could bring one character back to life, which would it be?
Well I mentioned Sirius’ Death earlier.. so Sirius.
But if not him Fred.
Hallows or Horcruxes ?
While it would be nice to have a bit of the history of Hogwarts, I would prefer not to have a container with a bit of soul in it! So the Hallows would be good.
What do you think? Do you disagree with any of my answers?
